Government of Canada investing locally in New Media
On September 7, 2012 by adminAn investment by the Government of Canada will allow The Gate magazine to redesign its website, develop a marketing strategy, and expand its Canadian content.
The Gate is a digital entertainment publication that covers film, gaming, and television. Its target audience is Canadians aged 18 to 35 who are interested in arts and culture.
“This year marks the start of the five-year countdown to Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017,” said Minister Moore. “Our Government is proud to invest in projects that contribute to our collective identity and define who we are as Canadians. On the road to 2017, let us continue to celebrate all of the things that make Canada the united, prosperous, and free country we are today.”
“The Canadian periodical industry contributes to this country’s quality of life and to the economic and cultural strength of our communities,”. “It is important for our Government to encourage the growth of our Canadian publishers and magazines such as The Gate.”
“As an independent publisher, innovation is integral to delivering great content to The GATE’s readers, while staying competitive and enhancing how readers interact with the website and our articles,” said W. Andrew Powell, Editor-In-Chief. “With this assistance from the Government of Canada, The Gate will have the opportunity to market more effectively to advertisers and expand on our goal of delivering readers with new and interesting stories about independent filmmakers and musicians who deserve more attention for their work.”
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $15,000 through the Business Innovation component of the Canada Periodical Fund. The Fund invests in periodicals like this one to help increase the overall health of the Canadian magazine and non-daily newspaper industries. The Business Innovation component encourages innovation to adapt to changing market conditions and contributes to the diversity of content sought by Canadian readers.
